Attachment-Based Individual Therapy in Oswego, IL
Understand your patterns. Heal your roots. Reconnect with yourself.
Build the confidence that comes from trusting you can handle your deepest emotions.
Maybe you understand why you feel the way you do, but still find yourself caught in the same internal cycles.
You may be struggling with anxiety, overthinking, perfectionism, or chronic stress. You may have difficulty trusting yourself, setting personal boundaries, or making decisions with confidence. Or perhaps nothing feels explicitly “wrong”—you simply know you don't feel like yourself anymore.
Individual therapy can give you space to slow down, understand what's happening beneath the surface, and build a more compassionate, authentic relationship with yourself.
At Wildroot Relationship Therapy, individual therapy is grounded in the belief that your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and inner experience have a history. Together, we'll explore those roots with curiosity and care while helping you feel more grounded, resilient, and connected to who you truly are.
When You Know Something Needs to Change
Sometimes we come to therapy with a clear problem. Other times, it's harder to explain.
You might be functioning well on the outside—managing your career, taking care of your responsibilities, and keeping things moving forward—while feeling anxious, disconnected, overwhelmed, or uncertain on the inside.
You might wonder:
Why am I always overthinking and second-guessing myself?
Why is it so hard for me to relax or feel present?
Why do I feel responsible for keeping everything under control?
Why do I shut down or feel exhausted when life gets overwhelming?
Why do I know what I need, but feel so guilty prioritizing myself?
How do I stop feeling like I have to prove my worth every day?
These experiences don't happen in a vacuum. Often, the protective mechanisms that feel exhausting today developed because they once helped you navigate stress, high expectations, or difficult life circumstances.
Therapy gives you an opportunity to understand those patterns—not judge them—and create more freedom in how you respond to yourself today.
What We Treat in Individual Therapy
Individual therapy at Wildroot is focused on helping adults navigate internal emotional landscapes, cultivate self-worth, and move through major life transitions:
-
Anxiety isn't always just about feeling nervous. It often presents as perfectionism, chronic overthinking, difficulty relaxing, or constantly anticipating what could go wrong. We'll work together to understand the root of your anxiety and develop the emotional capacity to navigate uncertainty without feeling overwhelmed.
-
If you've spent years prioritizing everyone else's expectations, it's easy to lose touch with your own voice. Therapy provides a dedicated space to clarify your personal values, practice setting healthy boundaries without guilt, and build deep, enduring self-trust.
-
High-functioning burnout and chronic loneliness can leave you feeling drained, disconnected, and empty—even when you're accomplishing all your goals. We'll focus on somatic awareness and emotional regulation to help your nervous system step out of constant survival mode and return to balance and genuine self-connection.
-
Navigating major life shifts—career changes, entering a new stage of adulthood, navigating grief, or re-evaluating who you want to be—can raise deep questions about identity and purpose. Individual therapy offers a grounded space to process change and step confidently into your next chapter.

An Experiential, Active, & Compassionate Approach
We don't believe in passive "talk therapy" where you sit on a couch and analyze your past week while a therapist nods silently. True healing requires an active, collaborative, and emotionally engaged partnership.
Rather than simply analyzing your experiences from a distance, we pay attention to what is happening in the present moment—your emotions, thoughts, body, and protective responses. My approach draws primarily from two evidence-informed models:
Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP)
Focuses on helping you safely process deep emotions in real-time alongside an attuned, supportive therapist. AEDP unlocks your natural biological drive toward healing and self-compassion so you don't have to process heavy feelings alone.
Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT)
An attachment-based model that helps us uncover the underlying emotional patterns behind anxiety, doubt, and emotional protective responses, guiding you toward a secure relationship with yourself.
Your Adaptations Have Roots, Not Flaws
The ways you protect yourself, the internal pressure you feel, and the self-doubt you experience aren't evidence that something is fundamentally wrong with you. Often, they are evidence of how well you learned to adapt to past environments. In therapy, we become curious about those adaptations: Where did they come from? What are they trying to protect? And do they still serve you today?
What Is Individual Therapy Like?
A space to slow down, get curious, and reconnect with your authentic self.
You don't need to arrive with everything figured out, and you don't need to have the perfect words for what you're experiencing.
Therapy is collaborative and relational. Some sessions may focus on slowing down to process a difficult emotion held in the body. Other sessions may focus on working through current stressors, unlearning perfectionism, or aligning your daily decisions with your true values.
Through individual therapy, you can begin to:
Understand your emotional responses and feel grounded in who you are
Develop greater self-trust, self-compassion, and emotional flexibility
Set personal boundaries with clarity and confidence
Release the weight of chronic overthinking and high-functioning anxiety
Feel genuinely connected to your core values and authentic identity
